Miao New Year celebrated in Dehang Miao Village

On January 20, the tenth day of the twelfth lunar month, a special event was held in Dehang Miao Village of Jishou City to celebrate the Miao New Year, attracting over 200 tourists. When tourists entered the village, Miao girls warmly invited esteemed guests to sing door-blocking songs in an antiphonal style and drink door-blocking wine. Tourists also experienced folk activities such as making glutinous rice cakes and tofu.

Miao New Year is a traditional festival for the Miao people to celebrate the harvest and pray for good weather in the coming year. After the sacrificial prayer begins, the suona is played, gongs and drums are beaten, and songs and dances are performed. The parade team goes through the village and delivers good wishes to villagers. And tourists can also experience the traditional folk customs of the Miao family, and feel the original Miao performances.
